Cutting Class..

Filed under: 2010,November — Hennie van Heerden @ 3:29 pm

Well.. A bit. Only half a day. But when I woke up in the morning it was raining cats and dogs and I decided to stay in, have a nice long quiet breakfast and have a look at the pictures I shot so far.

After lunch it cleared up a bit and we did go out on game drive but indeed there was not much exciting going on. Shot a couple of nice ones of the vultures waiting for the Styx pride to leave a buffalo carcass, but the kill itself was lying in dense bushes so I couldn’t really get a good shot.

We did have big fun with, according to Matt, the most rediculous bird on the planet: the Black-Bellied Korhaan (or Black-Bellied Bustard as it’s called nowadays) . The reason why this bird is so hilarious has nothing to do with his looks but all with the sound he makes as a mating call. Every time we heard it we tried to anticipate the ‘pop’ and tried to capture it on camera. It turns out that during the ‘pop’ the Korhaan sticks its tongue out but to get that on camera is really really hard! My camera shoots 10 frames per second and only one (!) caught the ‘pop’!  Anyway, we had big fun and everytime that ‘pop’ sounds, you could wipe me off the floor.
Well, I better show you what I mean: found this video on YouTube.
